How to Foster Social Responsibility in Your Business Team

As businesses grow, they can play an increasingly important role in society. In addition to creating jobs and providing goods and services, companies have the potential to become a force for good by fostering social responsibility among their employees.

By encouraging your business team members to be socially responsible, you’re not only helping them lead better lives but also contributing positively to the communities around you.

1. Create a Charity

Charities don’t just help those in need – they also provide employees with an outlet to express their social responsibility. Encourage your business team members to create a charity that aligns with the values and goals of your organization, and offer support by donating resources or allowing them to use work time for their efforts.

Going over the potential philanthropic activities you’ll be doing with your team can be a great way to get them inspired and excited about social responsibility. Additionally, it will provide a great sense of team building and camaraderie. To start a charity, consider following these five steps:

  • Research different causes and charitable organizations – This implies you should do your homework and research the needs of your local community and any potential charities to consider partnering with. 
  • Create a plan – Identify how much money you want to fundraise, who will be responsible for managing the project, and what types of events or drives you’ll host in order to raise funds.

This is also a great way for customers and funders to see firsthand how much your business cares about its philanthropic goals.

Invite local businesses, organizations, and individual donors to attend the event and help raise money for the cause you’re supporting. Donors may also be willing to provide additional support in the form of silent auction items or even matching donations.
